Sailing Clubs in the UK
If you enjoy activities in the open air and love "messing
about in boats", sailing could well be the sport for you.
With sailing clubs found along our dramatic coastline and our
inland waterways as well as on some of the most picturesque lakes
in the UK, sailing has something to offer regardless of age and
ability.
From complete novices to expert racers, joining a sailing club
means you can participate in both local club events as well as
taking part in races further afield giving you the opportunity
to travel and socialise while enjoying a sport that's becoming
increasingly popular.
Whether you want to sail a yacht or a dinghy, by joining a sailing
school you'll be given expert tuition as well as the camaraderie
and expertise of other club members. Most sailing clubs offer everything
from dinghy courses to complete RYA (Royal Yachting Association)
theory and practical courses in order to ensure competent crew,
day skippers, coastal skippers and yacht masters.
While some choose to sail for leisure alone, others soon find
themselves drawn by the competitiveness of sailing. It's for this
reason that most sailing schools and clubs offer facilities to
satisfy those at both ends of the scale – you can participate in
club races and, perhaps, even compete on a national level, or you
can simply sail for recreation.
And don't worry if you don't have your own boat – most sailing
clubs have them available either as part of your membership fee
or on a hire basis.
